Chassis prep

The excellent Car Mechanics magazine ran a feature a few months ago about how to rustproof a chassis.  Given that the WRX chassis is showing some signs of surface corrosion, I thought I’d give it a go.  First step according to RustBuster (www.rust.co.uk) is to get rid of remnant salt crystals.  This is done using a compound called Chlor-X, sprayed onto the chassis and allowed to dry.  Next step is to remove surface corrosion, which yields the results in the picture.  It’s important to note that the intention is not to strip the paint right back and a highly polished finish is undesirable as the next step will passivate the corrosion by the application of a compound.  I’ll cover this in the next post
