Having treated the remnant salt crystals with Chlor-X, degreased and mechanically removed the loose flaking rust, it is time to convert the rust present. The next steps in the RustBuster (http://www.rust.co.uk) method in treating rust is to convert the rust into a solid using a chemical called Fe-123. This converts the surface rust into a stable compound ready for painting.
After wire brushing, typical chassis condition was as per the photo below:
Fe-123 goes on sparingly and immediately turns a blue/black colour:
After curing for a day, the results are shown in the pictures below. The next step is to sand down the brown areas where FE-123 hasn’t reacted fully before painting with Epoxy Mastic.
